Applicants must possess residency status that allows for mid-to-long-term residence in Japan or Japanese citizenship
◇Preference is given to applicants with the following residency status
- ⊙Permanent Resident
- ⊙Long-Term Resident
- ⊙Dependent of a Japanese National
- ⊙Dependent (Dependent of a Permanent Resident)
- ⊙Highly-Skilled Professional
- ⊙Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Relations
- ⊙Japanese Citizens
◇Applicants in possession of a residency status other than those listed above may not begin their employment until after they have applied and been approved for a change in residency status. Meiko Kids e can assist in the application process. However, an official employment contract may not be signed and work for pay may not begin until the new and valid residency card is in the applicant’s possession.
◇Those applying from overseas or visiting Japan with the status of “Short-Term Stay (Tourism)” or visiting through visa waiver agreements may not begin their employment until after they have applied and been approved for a change in residency status. Meiko Kids e can assist in the application process. However, an official employment contract may not be signed and work for pay may not begin until their application has been approved and they have a received a valid residency card.
- ⊙Overseas applicants and those in Japan with the status “Short-Term Stay (Tourism)” or visiting through visa waiver agreements will undergo 2 application processes to receive the proper residency status for working: The application for the issuance of a certificate of eligibility for residency status followed by the application for residency status. The process can take 3-4 months or more. Should an applicant’s “Short-Term Stay (Tourism)” status or visa waiver status expire before the process is complete, they will be required to leave Japan and complete the process at a Japanese consular office in their home country or country of legal residence.
